How to paint purely from imagination

Painting is an art of converting ideas and feelings into a canvas of 2-dimensional images, with certain aesthetic qualities. It is an art of representing thoughts with pictures and images blended with multiple color schemes having appealing visual characteristics. Imagination is the human’s ability to create ideas and images. As per the words of Albert Einstein: ‘Imagination is everything.’ Painting with imagination is every artist’s dream that helps him translate his thoughts and feelings into the canvas. Imaginative art is challenging compared to reference art because there is no trace available and the artist has to draw things based on the cognitive images rather than the real ones. In this blog post, we will learn about how to paint purely from imagination in the absence of real objects.

Painting an imaginative drawing is a creative task that involves developing a clear state of mind and following some simple and fundamental techniques. These techniques involve analyzing a few details regarding the imagined scenario, developing an initial sketch and ultimately making modifications using realistic images.

The first step to create an imaginary scene is focusing on generalized things. Considering what is more important than the least one requires creativity. An artist must not dive deeply into the details of the imagination rather focusing on a few things. It is essential to consider thins like location, landforms, and light direction initially. To make the images more realistic, it is necessary to develop a background first before hammering further details into the canvas.

The next step to creating an imaginative picture is drawing an initial sketch. After discovering, a set of generic things that the image would revolve around, it is compulsory to develop a preliminary draft giving an idea before creating a final painting. This would serve as a language to the artist, explaining the details in an artistic way. Developing a sketch would not only help to add further details but would also result in crafting an initial framework before adding colors to the painting.

The last and most important step in imaginative painting is adding details using reference pictures. Once the generic idea is brainstormed and a preliminary sketch is created, it is time to add details to develop a final picture. To add details to the draft, an artist can make use of real pictures to make the painting look exceptional. For an imaginative painting, it is not complimentary for the canvas to be completely imagined by the painter. Nevertheless, the addition of existing real images for further detailing can be made, which helps create a more beautiful and magnificent masterpiece. Thus, realism can combine with imagination to develop a fantastic work of art.

Transforming your thoughts into visuals is an art, which requires great skills, ability and a great state of mind. Since a picture is worth more than a thousand words, painting your imagination is a way to deliver subliminal messages represented by a piece of art. Such an art is not merely a motion picture but a dynamic one manifesting clear thoughts revolving around various subjects.
